Ongar Petanque hosts the Eastern Counties Vintage Pairs
The Eastern Counties Vintage Pairs played at Ongar on Saturday 15th August was a great success with 16 teams competing from different clubs throughout the Eastern Region. This Annual Challenge for all our Senior Over 70’s, is always enjoyable and brings together like-minded passionate pétanque players to compete within their experienced age-group. All players played a Round Robin in the morning in groups of 4 teams, The winner and 2nd placed teams of each group going through to play another Round Robin in the Main Trophy Competition, with the 3rd and 4th placed teams going into the afternoon Round Robin for the Plate Competition. These 6 matches for each team were limited to 8 ENDS, with wins and points difference taken into consideration. These results led to the Main Competition and Plate Competition Semi-Final Rounds with the top team in each section playing the 2nd placed team in their adjacent section a full game to 13 points to find the finalists. Both final matches were tightly contested and enjoyed by both the players and the many supportive players spectating. Thanks go to John and Howard Innocent for designing the format of this competition, Ongar Petanque for hosting, and to JeanMarc Leroy from Chalkwell refereeing.
