Essex South Pétanque League 2025 – Ongar Reach the Finals

July marked the inauguration of an exciting new competition for South Essex clubs — the Essex South Pétanque League 2025.

Clubs were invited to enter teams of six players to compete across Singles, Pairs and Triples formats, with the aim of identifying the strongest all-round club in the region. The competition was divided into two divisions: East Essex and West Essex.

Ongar were proud to finish top of the West Essex Division, securing their place in the Finals held in September against the winners and runners-up from the East Division.

The Finals took place on Saturday 28th September at Maldon and featured a high standard of play, with many England and County players participating. Each club contested four matches, with six players alternating to compete in Singles, Doubles and Triples across both a Semi-Final and Final format.

Representing Ongar were:

John Moore
John Innocent
Steve Kramer
Pauline Prior
Carolyn Innocent
Colin Finch
Joel Guilloux

The squad delivered some excellent performances throughout the day and were pleased to finish 3rd overall in this inaugural competition.

The Essex South League has proved to be a fantastic new addition to the regional pétanque calendar, encouraging strong club participation and competitive team play across all disciplines of the game.

Congratulations to all involved in organising this new league format, and well done to our Ongar squad for representing the club with such determination and team spirit.
